Transfer Round-Up: Schuster Celebrates Real Madrid with Two Signings; Malouda Moves On!

Real Madrid found an expensive way into the transfer market with the recent capture of FC Porto defender Pepe to a five-year deal. The price tag hovered around $38 million and the big spending resumes as the formal announcement of Bernd Schuster as head coach has the club ready to start a new era off strong. On top of Pepe, apparently Wednesday will be the day that Schuster and Real introduce the free transfer signing of former Barcelona strike-man Javier Saviola.

Florent Malouda finally got his wish and even though it wasn't for Real Madrid or Liverpool, Chelsea ended up paying what Lyon wanted all along - a firm $35 million+. The wing midfielder will meet up with Chelsea in Los Angeles and most likely take part in the preseason friendlies. This is a decent signing for Mourinho and Chelsea but spells the departure for at least one existing wing midfielder on Chelsea's roster. Wright-Phillips? Robben?

Wigan Athletic continues to spend and with no less financial clout either. This time the Latics pick up attacking midfielder and Championship stud Jason Koumas, handing out a firm $10.5 million to secure the W.B.A midfielder's services.

Fulham have spent significant money (maybe not wasted Steve Marlet money, but close enough), about $12 million to latch up Diomansy Kamara from West Bromwich Albion. In two days, the two guys that led West Brom to a decent showing in the Championship last year have now been shipped off to Premiership squads in order to bolster a somewhat tiny transfer kitty now worth around $22 million. Does Kamara's arrival spell the beginning of the end for Brian McBride?

I think in Saviola they have got a very good signing. He didn't a get a look in at Barca for whatever reason but he is very good and I hope he will deliver the goods for Real.

Saviola's presentation is likely to be Friday, as long as the player agrees to personal terms. Pepe, whose transfer was announced yesterday, will be presented on Thursday, and Metzelder, who signs on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund was presented earlier today.
