Hat-Trick Watch: Berhalter comes close, but Kanoute and Huntelaar put on a clinic

My birthday saw Gregg Berhalter come ever so close to his first career hat-trick from a defensive position. He got the brace though in a 3-1 1860 Munich win over Kaiserslautern.
Here are the hat-trick heroes...

Sevilla 5, Real Madrid 3

Spanish SuperCup

Sevilla outlasted Madrid in a shootout that tried to overshadow the recent RBNY/Los Angeles 5-4 shootout. Frederic Kanoute showed that despite his recently signed new contract, he is not planning on slowing down his scoring pace. Good thing for Sevilla because all the pieces are in place for them to have yet another great year. It was Kanoute's hat-trick and Renato's brace that sunk Madrid.

Ajax 8, De Graafschap 1
Dutch Eredivisie

Now that is an ass-whooping and Klaas Jan-Huntelaar had everything to do with it. The Manchester United transfer target struck for four goals - grabbing his third and fourth goals in injury time. If Huntelaar can produce half of that - every game - Ajax could be lifting the Eredivisie trophy once again after a brief, but extremely frustrating, hiatus.

Spartak Moscow 4, Kuban Krasnodar 0
Russian Vischaya

Roman Pavlyuchenko scored the first three goals to embarrass Ante Jazic's former squad in a sound 4-0 shutout. Roman - a striker used sparingly at the international level - has scored over 50 goals in 100 or so appearances for Spartak.

Dynamo Kiev 7, Karpaty 3
Ukrainian Premier Division

Ismael Bangoura scored a hat-trick to solidify Dynamo's lead over a tough Karpaty squad who struck first, but faded thereafter. The 22-year old Guinean recently left French Ligue One squad and youth hotbed Le Havre for Kiev in a $7.5 million deal and has already impressed.

Cruzeiro 4, Fluminense 2
Brazilian Campeonato

Alecsandro - although a decent striker - is most known for his brother-in-law Deco. The 26-year old Brazilian striker is making quite the name for himself though after he hit for three against a normally defensively sound Fluminense.

Good to see a Sevilla win, I hope they can also beat AC Milan to win the UEFA Super Cup.
