Assorted.

Sylvain Distin could on his way to Fratton Park as Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his defense after a formidable Premiership showing. Pompey is also looking hard at a previous summer's transfer target, Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari. The figure is reported to be around $14 million.

Charlton, with a quick return to the Premiership in mind, have signed Chris Iwelumo from Colchester and Crewe's goal-scorer Luke Varney for a cool $4 million.

Romario has scored his "one-thousandth" goal and joins Pele in that realm. Controversy, of course, ensues but a thousand is a thousand. If ALL goals were counted, like in Romario's case, who else would be close?

The big MLS news today was from New York. The Red Bulls have pushed back 2 months the opening date for Red Bull Park. Article is here.
