United gets a point...

D.C. United 1, New England 1
ESPN2 MLS Primetime Thursday RFK Stadium

Matt Reis' save was brilliant in the 4th minute of injury time. Shalrie Joseph was ejected in the 59th minute. Andy Dorman continues his hot streak with his 3rd of the year, but Jaime Moreno converted a somewhat controversial penalty kick to counter New England momentum. Better games were played by the Brazilian Fred, Bennie Olsen, and even Nicolas Addlery got the start (although he was less effective than both Olsen and Fred).

DCU: Moreno (1)
NER: Dorman (3)

Couple things of note:

Jason Kreis
, the all-time leading MLS scorer, has hung up his boots to act solely as the new Real Salt Lake manager, taking the place of John Ellinger. Ellinger (in a smart decision by Checketts) will stick around to direct all player personnel. Checketts decided to get rid of RSL General Manager Steve Pastorino who will look for a job somewhere else. The boat has been rocking in Salt Lake for sometime now and the whole stadium problem has made Checketts an impatient man (an impatience which probably should have been exposed a lot sooner). Congratulatons Jason on an amazing career. Here's to starting a new one.

Chivas USA midfielder and slow starter Amado Guevara will most likely NOT be heading to Toronto FC, due to his previous relationship with the man in charge, Mo Johnston.

UEFA Cup FINAL: Sevilla vs. Espanyol

UEFA CUP Semifinals

Sevilla 2, Osasuna 0
(Sevilla advance to the final on a 2-1 aggregate score)

Brazilians Luis Fabiano and Renato put Sevilla into the final and destroyed the Cinderella run of upstart Osasuna. The game, however, wasn't really close. Osasuna was outshot 21-6 and Sevilla pushed onwards to their 2nd consecutive UEFA Cup final. They are looking for their second consecutive win and they will have to face the Catalan team Espanyol to get it. It is the first team since 1986 (Real Madrid) to do so.

Werder Bremen 1, Espanyol 2
(Espanyol advance to the final on a 5-1 aggregate score)

Miroslav Klose's ejection was the highlight of this otherwise calm second leg. Werder scored first, but after Klose was sent off the German threat disappated. Espanyol cruised to an all-Spanish final matchup with Sevilla. It's Espanyol's first time back in the Cup final since 1988. Ferran Coro and Jesus Lacruz were the goalscorers for Espanyol. Hugo Almeida got the first of the match for Werder.

Quick notes:

1. Feyenoord head coach Erwin Koeman (the brother of Ronald) has left under mutual consent with the club.

2. Milan Baros, the former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker and now Lyon a man, was suspended for 2 games for pinching his nose in front of an opponent. Will someone explain to me the offense?

3. Defender Shavar Thomas was traded to cross-town rivals Chivas USA by the Los Angeles Galaxy. Yallop received a second round SuperDraft pick in return.

4. Heerenveen midfielder and Yank Abroad Michael Bradley enjoyed picking up double hardware for the Young Heerenveen side. They have won both the league and now the KNVB Beloften Cup.
