Sevilla wins the UEFA Cup with a penalty kick win over Espanyol. Jonatas goal with 5 minutes to go in extra time ensured a shootout showdown with reeling Frederic Kanoute and Sevilla. Sevilla secured their repeat however with accurate shooting, something which Espanyol couldn't muster up. It was 2-2 regulation with goals from Adriano Correia and Kanoute for Sevilla and Riera and Jonatas for Espanyol.
Mr. Bob Bradley has been appointed United States Men's National Team boss. Some are saying he'll get an 18-month trial period before it is decided whether or not he'll stick around. As long as we play decent competition, I have no problems. Also, many say his record over the last couple months should have been expected. We all know, however, a win over Mexico should never be expected. With the likes of Omar Esparza, Andres Guardado, and Giovanni dos Santos you can never expect a clear-cut win.
Toronto FC has done it yet again. A 1-0 home win over the defending champs has rendered people somewhat baffled. Andy Welsh did the damage for TFC heading in a restart. Yet again the fans were unmatchable, but without promotional items to litter the field with.
It is a shame Sheffield United went down. With Wigan's form in the waning moments of the season, United really deserved to stay up. Even more so, Neil Warnock did not deserve his fate of leaving the now Championship club. Who knows, maybe he'll end up with Man City or one of the other Premiership openings that could possibly coming.
Both Oguchi Onyewu and Damarcus Beasley's releases have been confirmed. They have returned to their respective clubs of Club Brugge and PSV Eindhoven. It will be interesting to see where they end up.
The US Men's U-2o National Team played well against Argentina's U-20 team minus the ability to finish. Jozy Altidore came close several times, but failed to put it in the back of the net. I like their chances for this coming summer (already got tickets to the US vs. Brazil game on July 6th).
